Best Pet For Someone Who Works All Day

best pet for busy people

From Monday to Friday I literally work all day: 9 – 5.30 and I write on my blogs when I get home. I also live alone. To top it all I live in a very small apartment, it has only one room with a tiny kitchen inside, small bathroom and small hallway – everything in very small size.

You see I am not the ideal person to keep a pet at home at all.

At first, I never intended to keep a pet, I liked everything sparkling clean and quiet.

But I’ve always been an animal person, I simply can’t turn away from a cry on the street coming from a suffering animal. So it was only natural for me to find a pet and to decide to live with it – in spite of everything against such life in my circumstances.

Check my personal experience and warmest recommendation on what pet to choose if you work all day:

Why I Think A Cat Is The Best Pet For Busy Adults

This opinion of mine comes from real-life experience as I’ve been able to live perfectly well with my cat Puffy.

Cats Are Extremely Flexible Pets

First of all, cats are truly miracle animals, they are so flexible in every way possible. The way they are able to find a comfortable position to rest in the weirdest places always amazes me – and makes me laugh.

So space is really not a major problem for cats – they are different than us, so planning space in your home for a cat often doesn’t work.

Cats are very low maintenance pets, they clean themselves and once they learn to use the litter box you don’t have problems cleaning after them. If you get a self-cleaning litter box then it gets even easier.

Cats are very capable of spending time alone. I know because I work a lot and my cat is by herself 80% of the time.

There is a catch though. A cat is the best pet to have when you work a lot but you have to think of ways to entertain your cat while you are at work. I for example buy a lot of cat toys. My floor looks as if there is a child living in my apartment. But it really makes my place more cheerful. I do occasionally step on cat toys – it’s what I’ve accepted as something I can’t change.

Luckily there are many “cat gadgets” out there like cat trees, cat fountains or cat shelves that you can get to keep your cat active while you’re away from home. This is mostly for an indoor cat as outdoor cats have enough activities and your major concern will be food and shelter for the outdoor cat.

Cats love to sleep with their owners. My cat just crawls on my chest and falls asleep there and in a magical way her purring and warmth purifies my soul. I feel like my soul has taken a bath and is cleansed from all the anxiety and bad things gathered from the hectic workday.

That is another reason cats are the best pets for busy adults – they take away the bad energy from the workday with their cuddles and help you relax more. So if you are busy during the day you still need to give love and cuddles to your cat – it is a living being that thrives on cuddles and mutual play (yes you do have to play with it at least for a short amount of time during the day). Here are all the reasons why cats are so appropriate pets for people who work:

  • Cats are cool pets that are easy to take care of: they make you laugh with all their cute weirdness and a laughter is exactly what you need after a hard day at work.
  • Cats are low maintenance pets for apartments: they are very hygienic pets so there is minimal amount of work to do to keep your home clean when you have a cat.
  • Cats are pets that can be left alone: this is confirmed by my own personal experience, they easily adapt to their environment but they do need to be active which is easily solved with all the cat products you can buy today.
  • Cats are a great pet for a lonely person: I think a dog is the best pet for someone who feels lonely but dogs require more attention and are not so self sustained as cats. So for a working single person a cat is the ideal pet in my opinion.

If you work a lot but you still want a pet that is easy to keep and will keep you company, give you love and relax you when you get home then a cat is a perfect choice. Especially if you live in an apartment in the city: cats are quiet animals and with minimal effort you’ll get lots of love and cuddles in life. I never once regretted getting a cat and I can’t imagine my life now without my Puffy.
